zsDuplicate Hunter is a fantastic way to reclaim wasted space on your hard drive!

I had no idea that when I was running my favorite applications that do so many things automatically that I was actually creating extra, or duplicated files. No wonder I'm always needing a bigger hard drive!

When I fired up zsDuplicateHunter for the first time, I was actually pretty incredulous. I can't have that many duplicates, can I? But I quickly found out that by right-clicking on the suspicious file I could open it up in the viewer. I tested it on a few image files which opened up in Photoshop - yep! They were duplicates all right.

This is fascinating! How in the world did I manage to get the very same (bad picture) of some flowers in front of my house duplicated on my hard drive 8 times? (hhhmmm..maybe I shouldn't admit this. It makes me feel sort of untidy!)

Like zsCompare, zsDuplicateHunter has an excellent help file which explains thoroughly how to delete the duplicte files safely. There are several options you can select. You might decide to delete all the duplicated files, or move them to a special folder (and then delete them later, like I did!)

Just to give you an idea of the speed, zsDuplicateHunter searched through about 10,000 files while I went in the kitchen and poured a cup of coffee just now (2 minutes). zsDuplicateHunter found 1706 duplicates in these 10,000 files. Wow.

Ok, I'm extrapolating this data, and would roughly estimate that if I take a few minutes to check my folders every week, I can probably save several gigs of hard drive space, make my computer run faster, and find files faster too.

By the way, you can even search inside ZIP files with zsDuplicateHunter.

The help file of zsDuplicateHunter does have some advanced information, like the section on regular expressions. That could be quite useful if you are looking for a particular string inside a file but don't care about case, or you want to search for particular text patterns.

Generally speaking, zsDuplicateHunter is quite user-friendly and easy to use. zsDuplicateHunter is a terrific way to save space on your hard drive and increase your computer's efficiency!
